Swami Purnananda regularly offers courses on "Enneagram and the Essence of Truth" and "Guided Meditation."
the Essence of Truth
When we were in our formative years, we had to respond to the demands that came from our
parents. In forming a strategy, we developed a compulsion based drive that formed the corner
stone of our personality and a habitual response to life.
The Enneagram postulates that this
presents 9 personality types and it provides a systematic map of them. By understanding our type
we can grow and by understanding other types, we have the means to understand and empathize with them.
Understanding the persona, or mask is one thing, but real growth occurs from the realization of
the Truth that sits behind the mask and being attuned to that. This course by Swami Purnananda interweaves both of these aspects and provides the basis for genuine change and development.
The Art of Meditation
Game of Guiding Thought
Doctors and business mentors recommend meditation as practiced traditionally for centuries, but what is it actually & why is it more than a health & stress remedy? In this workshop, Swami Purnananda covers the theory and practical exercises and guidance on meditation.
What is Meditation? Meditation is the unbroken flow of thought towards an object, so that subject and object merge in identity.
Why is it important? Allows the discovery of “man” in depth and sets the condition for its revelation. Meditation also corrects aspects of our personality, which bring us grief & stress, and enables us to establish new more productive joy-bearing behavioral patterns.
What does the course do? Gives us a richer inner life and steadiness of mind; but also makes us prosperous by allowing us to take an important step in controlling nature – internal and external. This means that we get a handle on stress, deal with people better and invite more inventiveness, peace and abundance for all.
The Éire Vedanta Society offers retreats, that consist of talks and reflection around a selected theme as well as practical and spiritual exercises.
Two types of retreats are available all over a weekend (Friday to Sunday):
The Éire Vedanta Society is actively involved in promoting the life and teachings of Sister Nivedita
(Margaret Elizabeth Noble) in her home-town of Dungannon, Country Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
A visitors' centre houses a museum and a small theatre. Sister Nivedita is on the hall of fame at the Centre and a small terracotta statue of her is preserved in a glass case. A blue plaque on Scotch Street that commemorates Sister Nivedita is also placed in Dungannon.
The Dungannon Public Library has
a small section dedicated to the Complete Works of Sister Nivedita.
Éire Vedanta Society promotes community well-being by interacting with the members of the locality. The young and elders join different service programs like serving hospices etc. The planning for the community programmes are done over a cup of coffee at the Coffee Place.
Books on various topics including Vedanta, Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda, Direct Disciples of Sri Ramakrishna, Sister Nivedita, Buddhism, Philosophy, Psychology and Mythology are available for reading at the Library, located at Nivedita House.
