Rising over strands threefold

That tie with ghostly thread

Requires faith and spirit bold

Privilege makes no thoroughbred

Scholar buried deep in books

Who feeds the doubting minds

Tirelessly cares in inglenooks

Where poor and hunger grinds

Such a saint did live and love

Spared not health or discipline

Inspiring students to rise above

While suffering, giving medicine

When violent madness took a toll

And shock and anger disappoint

Only love’s blessings to extoll

Was his transcendent counterpoint

O Mother of incalculable forms, thou my steady protector, appearing first as a threat and then as a rescuer. First hiding, then revealing. Grant that I may be unmovable in storms, standing in faith and fearless with thee alone.
